OpenAI Introduces New Feature To Compete With DeepSeek

As China’s DeepSeek chatbot heats competition in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) field, the US-based OpenAI introduced a new “Deep Research” feature ahead of high-level meetings in Tokyo. OpenAI’s Sam Altman will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Masayoshi Son, SoftBank Group’s Chief, in Tokyo today.

OpenAI and SoftBank are part of the Stargate initiative, which Donald Trump, the US president, announced. The Stargate initiative aims to invest up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure across the United States.

Masayoshi Son, who is known to turn risks into rewards, was present at Trump’s Inauguration. This led to the announcement that SoftBank will head the  US AI infrastructure development project and collaborate with Oracle, the cloud computing leader.

DeepSeek’s entry into the AI field has caused a stir in Silicon Valley. Its purported cost-effectiveness and efficiency have prompted American developers to accelerate their efforts.

OpenAI introduced generative AI to the public with ChatGPT in 2022. It claims that the new tool, “deep research, accomplishes in tens of minutes what takes a human many hours.”

The US-based AI research organisation described that as the next agent of the company, deep research can work independently – “users give it a prompt, and ChatGPT will find, analyse and synthesise hundreds of online sources to create a comprehensive report at the level of a research analyst.”

During a live-streamed demonstration, OpenAI researchers showed deep research’s capacity to process web search data to recommend ski equipment suitable for a Japanese Snow holiday.
