Qualcomm is expanding its focus in India to develop new areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), automotive technology, extended reality (XR), and the Internet of Things (IoT). Manmeet Singh, Senior Director and India Business Head, said that the company anticipates these projects will play a significant role in shaping its business over the next three years.
This time, they are focusing on XR and smart glasses as the company’s chip already powers a range of XR products and AI-driven wearables. Singh said that these glasses will resemble normal sunglasses but feature video recording capabilities, beamforming audio for music, and enable the projection of digital content onto transparent displays. Qualcomm is also collaborating with Indian partners to establish locally relevant XR items.
The company’s new Wi-Fi access points will utilise AI to handle bandwidth in real-time, optimising the performance of residences with multiple connected devices. Now, AI integration is another top priority. “An average Indian home may soon have 30 to 35 connected devices. AI will be crucial to ensure each performs seamlessly“, Singh said.
