Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Sarla Aviation have entered into a partnership to launch electric flying taxis in the city. Sarla Aviation is India’s first electric vertical take-off and landing eVTOL aircraft that aims to open up the third dimension of urban travel.
These electric flying taxis are expected to reduce travel time, pollution, and the city’s traffic. The flying taxi would be a seven-seater, which would fly between Bengaluru Airport and Electronic City. This 52-kilometre route could be covered in just 19 minutes, now taking approximately three hours during peak time. The fare is expected to be Rs. 1,700.
“We aim to redefine urban air transport with operational efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, and scalable infrastructure. Our electric flying taxis will set new benchmarks in reliability and performance, aligning with global standards for sustainable aviation,” Co-founder and CEO of Sarla Aviation said.
The aircraft company plans to launch air taxi services to India’s most congested cities: Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Now, Bengaluru is the first city where services will be started soon. However, the regulatory approval is pending and could take three years to get fully operational. The company strives to make electric air taxis affordable and accessible for everyone.
