Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and India. This agreement drafts the procedures for deploying military formations, warships, and aircraft between the two countries’ territories. The Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS) was published on the Russian legal acts website.
This law aims to establish a framework for the deployment of military formations, the docking of warships in ports, and the use of airspace and airfield infrastructure by military aircraft from both Russia and India. It also reinforces the logistical support for military formations during joint exercises, training, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and other mutually agreed-upon activities.
This agreement is expected to strengthen ties and improve collaboration in the defence sector, enabling smoother operational cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
In an interview with Russian media outlet @SolovievLive, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov has said, “India is extremely important to us as an economic and political partner. It views Russia as one of the key poles in the multipolar world order, as its strategic partner, which has and will continue to have a decisive impact on global development.”
Earlier, India and Russia signed 16 agreements covering defence, trade, economy, healthcare, academia, culture, and media. At a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi. During the meeting, Narendra Modi said that the India-Russia friendship will give the courage to overcome challenges and that this confidence will enhance the shared future of both nations, which they are now taking forward through this agreement.
