The World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) has established a new committee to review the global cricket calendar.
Several stakeholders have raised concerns about the fragmented schedule and have demanded a better structure to balance international and domestic cricket.
Sports business expert Sanjog Gupta and former chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board Tom Harrison are among the committee looking to fix a calendar described as ‘broken and unsustainable’ by the sport’s global player body.
The committee will need to examine and offer solutions to the calendar issues. Harrison and Gupta bring years of experience working in the sports terrain to the table.
“We are fortunate that cricket is spoilt for choice and has three core formats across both the international game and domestic leagues,”WCA chair Heath Mills said.
“However, the game’s leadership has collectively failed to come together to establish a clear and coherent global structure in which they can coexist.”
There is a niggling frustration among players and stakeholders about the current state of the schedule, and the committee must provide decisive solutions.

The freshly inaugurated committee will focus on three crucial areas – global scheduling, game economics and player employment, contractingand regulation.
Whatever calendar they propose must allow international and domestic tournaments to coexist without games that prevent players from participating.
